SRINAGAR: Parents of Kashmirs disappeared held a peaceful protest in Srinagar on Friday and reiterated their demand to know the whereabouts of their missing kin.
The protest was held under the banner of Association of the Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP).
APDP welcomed the latest report of UN Rapporteur, Chrisof Heyns in which he has taken a dig at New Delhi for arbitrary executions in Kashmir and has expressed solidarity with the sufferers.
Heyns in his report to the Human Rights Council, on 26 April 2013, stated that the impunity is the central problem of human rights violations and asked India to repeal the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
The special Rapporteur has also recommended prompt ratification on International Convention for the protection of all persons from enforced disappearances, enacting the prevention of torture bill and ensuring its compliance with CAT, ensuring prompt registration of FIRs, stop granting promotions and other types of awards for security forces personal suspected to have been involved in human rights violation cases until a proper clarification of facts, review section 46 of the Criminal Procedure Code and legislation regarding use of force including use of lethal force by the security agencies.
