SRINAGAR: Urging media to highlight the plight of victims and devastation brought by earthquake in Badharwa and Gundhri, Union Health Minister and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Saturday said that he was shocked after visiting earthquake hit areas.
Interacting with reporters at Srinagar Airport, Azad urged them to present a proper and accurate picture of these areas. Badherwah and Gundhri have been mostly affected and we must highlight the plight of victims there, he said.
According to Azad near about 70-85% structures have got damaged in the earthquake. He said that the most affected regions were the areas of Ghunder and Bhaderwah.
Complaining media for ignoring the victims of the earthquake Azad said that media should pay proper attention towards this calamity.
He said that media showed a very little of the earthquake otherwise the damage by earthquake was much worse than that. He said his eyes have witnessed the level of the damage and it should be highlighted.Azad said the level of the damage could be estimated by the fact that still only 10% students are able to go to school.
He said it was unfortunate to observe that against the requirement of 10000 tents only 1000 tents had been distributed to victims so far.
He said that he has already directed the authorities for estimating the quantum of damage upto May 10 and in addition, he is mulling to seek assistance from Central Government.
