SRINAGAR: The family of slain militant Shabir Ahmed Shiekh, who hailed from restive Palhalan village in north Kashmir, Saturday blamed Pattan Police and an SOG officer for killing of their son.
Deputy Superintendent of Police SOG, Gowhar Ahmed and Pattan Police compelled my son to join militant ranks. DySP SOG physically and mentally tortured my son and forced him to take gun, father of slain militant Abdul Rehman Shiekh said.
Pertinently, Shabir was killed in a gunfight at Sopore on Thursday. Giving details about the circumstances under which his son (Shabir) joined the militant ranks, Abdul Rehman told CNS that his son used to run a shop at Palhalan. He had nothing to do with the militancy. My son represented State in Kabadi at National level. In 2006, Pattan police implicated him in a false case under 7/25 of Arms Act and was sent to Udhampur Jail, he said and added that after his release, Shabir resumed his normal routine and didnt take part in any so-called anti-social activities.
Abdul Rehman said that the bad luck for his son was the posting of Gowher Ahmed as DySP SOG Pattan. This officer changed the life of my son. This officer harassed and scared my son so much that he used to fear for his life. DySP used to call my son to his camp and torture him whenever there used to any happening from Tangmarag to Pattan, Rehman said.
Army never harassed my son and I am bailing them out. It was Pattan police and DySP SOG who made the life of Shabir miserable. One day police failed to nab anyone in Tangmarag following a grenade blast there and finally to appease their higher-ups Pattan police and SOG implicated my son. I advised him to do some business outside state but it was again Pattan police which gave negative report and thus barred my son to secure a passport, Rehman said.
The family of the slain militant rubbishes the police claim that Shabir was involved in the killing of Sarpanch Ghulam Mohammad, who he said was his relative. When the Sarpanch was killed, my son was in Hajam Mohalla. The false allegations of police sparked tension between two families and by grace of God the kith and kin themselves admitted the innocence of Shabir and negated the police claims, the family said.
The father of the slain militant said that Shabir tried to commit suicide when police implicated him in Sarpanchs killing. Again Pattan Police and SOG Pattan called my son to their camp in the case but he bluntly refused to present himself before them just because of the fear of torture. That was it, my son fled and joined the ranks of militants, Rehmansaid with tearful eyes and appealed the Chief Minister to look into the role of Pattan police and SOG officer.
However, he quickly added that he expects nothing form anyone. Probes and Committees and investigation cant help Shabir to return home and it is a futile exercise now, he said.
Waving the certificates of his slain son, Rehman said that Shabir was a talented youth but it was police and SOG who led him to death. (CNS)
