SRINAGAR- On the instructions of Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah, Minister of State for R&B and Home, Mr. Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, today met Chief Engineer, BEACON, Brig. R. K. Sharma, to discuss issues pertaining to immediate repair of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The Minister asked the Chief Engineer to immediately take up repair and patchwork required at several places along the National Highway. He also directed BEACON to regularly maintain the road and remove potholes on an urgent basis. “Besides the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, we will also improve the condition of Srinagar-Leh National Highway that has been recently opened for vehiculsr traffic,” he said, adding all important roads maintained by BEACON will be improved to facilitate smooth flow of traffic.
The Chief Engineer assured the Minister that repair work on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and all other important road links in the State will be taken up immediately.
Kichloo also asked Mr. Sharma to complete snow clearance of Sinthan Road that connects Anantnag district with Kishtwar so that it is reopened for vehicular traffic in the first week of May. He also discussed with BEACON Chief Engineer the issue of installation of crash barriers along Batote-Kishtwar road and immediate surfacing and pre-mixing of Kandni-Kishtwar road.
Several deadly accidents have taken place in erstwhile Doda district resulting in loss of precious human lives. Only last week, two accidents at Sarthal, Kishtwar and Chirala, near Thatri, consumed 09 lives besides critically injuring several other passengers.
