Police Foil PHE Employees March

SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday foiled a large protest march of PHE employees by arresting scores of them. The employees were demanding regularization of their jobs and release of their pending wages.

Hundreds of daily wagers and casual labourers belonging to PHE Department Thursday morning assembled at Press Colony Srinagar and held protests against the state government for not meeting their demands.

Amid slogans, the employees tried to take out a march towards Lal Chowk, however the police stopped them. Police resorted to lathicharge and arrested scores of daily wagers.

They were demanding that Government should regularize the services of PHE daily wagers who were appointed in the department from 1994 to 2005 and also release pending wages of casual and need based workers of the department.

President, Joint Employees Association while talking to media reiterated demand. He said that their struggle will continue till Government does not listen to their demands.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has meanwhile condemned the use of force against protesting PHE daily wagers who were holding peaceful demonstrations to press their demands. In a statement, the PDP senior leader and MLA Nizamudin Bhat said use of brute force was the proffered method of dealing with any situation for the present dispensation.
