Tremor Shakes Valley

SRINAGAR: A high intensity tremor that struck southeast Iran Tuesday was also felt in the Kashmir valley.

A 7.8 intensity earth quake that rocked Pakistan-Iran border at 4.14 P.M was also felt in Srinagar and other adjoining areas and the tremor sparked panic, Sonam Lotus, Regional Director Department of Meteorology said. There was no report of any damage to life or property from anywhere in Kashmir.

Kashmir is situated in an earthquake prone region where devastating tremors have wreaked havoc in the past. On Oct 8, 2005, a devastating earthquake killed over 40,000 people on both sides of the Line of Control (LOC).
