SRINAGAR: Pitching for a joint strategy to tackle with the Christian Missionaries, head of Muthaida Majlis-e-Ulema, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Thursday expressed serious concern over the mysterious activities of the Christian missionaries involving conversion of Kashmiri people in lieu of money and granting other privileges to do so.
Mirwaiz said that Kashmiri from past many decades are engaged in the freedom movement for which they have rendered innumerable sacrifices, adding, the people have always maintained the age-old tradition of communal harmony and at any cost have never allowed anybody to harm it.
He, however, said it was highly unfortunate that taking advantage of abnormal situation prevailing in Kashmir, many external powers were hell bent to change the dominant Muslim character of the Jammu and Kahsmir. He said such forces were making concerted efforts to convert the young students and people with less know how about basic Muslim teachings. Mirwaiz said they were offering innocent Kashmiris money, or a thing of luxury, or extending them grants in a bid to convert them.
Mirwaiz warned that any effort to mislead the young generation or change the dominant muslim character of Jammu and Kashmir would be resisted and confronted at each level. He said Kashmiris would never allow such activities to happen on their soil.
He said soon MMU would convene a meeting during which representatives of Islamic organizations would be invited to discuss this issue, adding, a joint strategy would be formulated to confront this issue of concern in Kashmir. (CNS)
