Students Enrolled Under PM Scholarship Scheme Asked To Pay Or Pack

SRINAGAR: An engineering college in Haryana has asked Kashmiri students, enrolled under Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme in August 2012, to pay fee or vacate the institution.

Students and their parents accused a local non government organization for playing foul, demanding State authorities to intervene in  the matter.

“Nearly 40 Kashmiri students were enrolled for various courses under Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme in August 2012. Now after completing their first semester, the college is asking students to  pay Rs 1.5 lakh as fee,” a delegation of parents said.

“If our wards were selected under scholarship, why are they being asked to pay the fee?” asked parents.

They said that a NGO in the Kashmir had sent them under the scholarship scheme. “We even called the NGO regarding the matter. They said they will look into it. They even talked to college authorities. But college authorities are telling us to pay fee on our own”, said a parent, Ghulam Nabi.

The students are enrolled in BBA, B Tech and Hotel Management degrees. They said that their wards had stopped attending the classes after being humiliated.

The students hail from various districts of Kashmir and parents accused the NGO of playing foul with them.

They demanded that authorities should intervene to save the future of their wards.
