SRINAGAR: Independent MLA En Abdul Rasheed on Tuesday called on Syed Ali Shah Geelani, asserting that his stand on the Kashmir issue was akin to that of the separatist leaders but differed only in methodology.
Rasheed was learnt to have briefed Geelani in detail about the recent assembly session, saying that he had asserted the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir which, according to him, was yet to be settled.
Jammu and Kashmir is neither the atoot ang of India nor the jugular vein of Pakistan, the MLA was reported to have said in the two-hour meeting this morning.
Rasheed was learnt to have pledged full support to Geelani in every effort aimed at getting the Kashmir issue resolved peacefully and in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
The Kashmir issue is an issue concerning the people of the state, which is yet to be resolved, sources quoted Rasheed as having said.
Commenting on his meeting with the legislator, Geelani said that Rasheeds views were apparently in conformity with those of the separatist camp.
The views that Engineer Sheikh Rasheed expressed about the Kashmir issue, indiscriminate arrests, and excesses are similar to our own, Geelani said.
Apart from the Kashmir issue and related matters, the two were learnt to have discussed the detention of separatist leaders, arrests of youth, the execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru, and the centres refusal to hand his body over to the family as well.
