SRINAGAR: Handwara police Saturday claimed to have busted a gang of bike lifters by arresting the kingpin and recovering seven stolen motorcycles. Police said that kingpin was dodging them from last one year.
Station House Officer Chogal Handwara, Mohammad Shafi said that from past one year they were looking for a bike lifter Abdul Hamid Dar son of Ali Mohammad Dar and they arrested him at a checkpoint near Wahipora, Handwara. During questioning he confessed his crime and on his instance we arrested few more persons and recovered six bikes from them out of which three bikes were without number plates, he said adding that more arrests were expected in this regard.
Out of six bikes recovered from the alleged kingpin the registration numbers of three bikes are JK01H-7386, JK05A-5969 and JK05-6816. Police said that kingpin with the help of others used to steal these bikes from different places and change their number plates.
A case on 24/2012 under section 379 RPC has been registered in this regard.
