JAMMU: Minister for R&B, Mr. Abdul Majid Wani today informed the House that construction work on 226 mtrs Sopore Bypass Bridge is in progress and would be completed by October 2013.
Replying to a Calling Attention Notice by Haji Mohammad Ashraf, the Minister said that two abutments and five piers of the bridge have been completed and pre-stressed girder of one end and approaches are in progress.
The Minister said that construction work of the bridge was awarded for Rs. 7.86 crore during 2003-04 and completion date of the bridge was fixed March 2008. He said the delay as was due to the delay in approval of proposal submitted by the contractor for additional shore span.
He said work could not progress due to unprecedented floods and unrest during 2008 to 2011 and the area falls under snowbound region where only six months working time is available.
The Minister said, however, despite constraints, the work on bridge has progressed and all out efforts are on to complete the bridge by October 2013. He said the Departmental execution of filling would be executed simultaneously.
