Police Rescues Drowning Tourists

SRINAGAR: Police on Monday rescued a group of tourists including two children when their boat capsized due to strong winds in Dal lake.

According to a police spokesperson Atanu Chatterji, his wife Poornama and their children Arpan and Sirpa Dass wife of Gopal Dass and her son Anuraj Dass from Kolkata, were rescued in a swift action when they were on a shikara ride which got capsized due to sudden windstorm in Dal.

“Police utilized the services of rescue motor boat and were able to save the tourists. They were later taken to their hotel. People as well as the tourists have hailed the efforts of police,” he said.

Meanwhile Imran Ahmad Khan, 15, son of Abdul Rashid Khan of Phalmargh, Handwara allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his home. The body was handed over his relatives after completing all legal formalities. Police inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC have been initiated in this regard. (KNS)
