SRINAGAR: Despite orders by Pollution Control Board (PCB) for closing illegal stone crushers and hot mix plants in Kupwara, district administration is yet to implement the directions.
The PCB had issued orders for the seizure of crusher and a hot mix plant in Kupwara in 2012, directing district administration to make immediate closure of these two. But no direction has been implemented so far, locals told KNS.
They said the activities and operation of these plants are detrimental to their health and environment.
Confirming the order issued by the PCB, sources said order number 87 of 2012 was issued for closure of hot mix plant on 9 October 2012 while an another order number 40 0f 2012 was issued for the seizure of crusher on 23 July 2012.
Regional Director Pollution Control Board Ali Mohammad Dar, said, Our job is to check illegal activities that are detrimental to health and environment. Since we have issued orders for closure of these plants, it is now job of Deputy Commissioner to implement them.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Sarmad Hafeez, said, Im unaware about such orders. But I assure that after ascertaining the facts, law will take its course. (KNS)
