Im Ashamed Of Being Colleague Of Sham Lal: Taj
JAMMU : The cracks within the state Congress widened Tuesday when a senior Congress leader and Minster Taj Mohi ud din alleged that he was the victim of factionalism in the state unit and said that he was being framed in false cases by his own party colleagues to stop him from becoming the new state Congress chief.
Meanwhile dismayed over the issue that saw an unprecedented ruckus in the assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has decided to take up the matter with Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Taj accused his cabinet and party colleague Sham Lal Sharma of intentionally maligning his image and playing to galleries.
Addressing a press conference at Jammu , Taj said that he felt ashamed of being colleague of a minster like Sham Lal Sharma.
I am a victim of party factionalism in the state, and they want to malign my image only to stop me from becoming the next party chief in the state. Claimed Taj, adding that there was a serious factionalism growing in the state Congress, but he made it clear that he was not supporting any of the factions.
The visibly agitated Minster said, It was a shame that a minster of my own party has raised fingers on me. I have worked hard during my tenure as PHE minster, and now this man (Sham Lal Sharma) is playing to galleries. Taj further said that work on so many schemes has been stopped, and he doesnt understand how a minster like Sham could get the knowhow of the department in such a short span of time. I have been a minster for 10 years now and I have worked hard to stay in the chair, I dont need to learn from a child like Sham. Said Taj, adding that when he took the charge of Consumer Affairs in the previous govt, he could have also maligned his predecessors. He claimed that he has brought a revolution in the department. While demanding an apology from sham lal Sharma, the Minster said that he would take up the matter with the Party High command.
Meanwhile Chief Minister Omar Abdulah is also believed to be taking up the issue of infighting of the senior ministers of congress with the Congress President and UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi.
Highly placed sources said that Chief Minster was upset with the infighting of the congress Ministers and has termed it as gross indiscipline .
If sources close to Chief Minster are to be believed, Omar has assured Taj Moihi ud din over a meeting, that he would discuss the matter with Sonia Gandhi.
However Congress High Command evaded a direct response where as State Party Chief Prof. Saif ud idn Soz, chose not to pick up the phone. We will look into the matter, but the state congress unit would be in a better position to comment on the issue. Party General Sec. and in charge Kashmir affairs, Mohan Prakash said over phone from New Delhi. (KNS)
