SRINAGAR: At a time when Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is finding it hard to pacify the anger of his people over the issue of execution of Afzal Guru, rightwing parties again raising questions about his patriotism.
The uproar in parliament over Omar Abdullahs absence at the wreath laying ceremony of 5 CRPF personnel killed in fidayeen attack in Srinagar forces him to rush to Airport well in time and fulfill his ‘duty’.
A senior National Conference leader said that how long Omar Abdullah has to prove that he is an Indian. Isnt it absurd that he didnt visit the house of his party member who was killed by CRPF in Saidapora area of Srinagar and he rushes to Airport to pay homage to slain CRPF personnel? Why and for what so-called nationalistic leaders including BJP leaders raise fingers at Omar Abdullah? he said.
Another close associate of Omar Abdullah on condition of anonymity said that Can one call a CM anti-national or anti-Indian merely on the ground that he was not present at funeral ceremony of slain CRPF jawans.
Chief Minister is the head of government and he has to manage everything. It is his discretion where he has to go and what he has to ignore, the NC leader said.
Delhi media criticized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for breaking down over the killing of Baramulla youth stating that Chief Minister should have attended the funeral of CRPF jawans. One of the news channels of India even stated that Omar Abdullah takes a serious note over the killing of civilians while as he acts as a mute spectator when some of the security personnel become the prey of militant attack.
National Conference claimed that Altaf Ahmed Wani, the youth killed in CRPF action was an active supporter of the party who was never involved in any stone-pelting incident. Party sources told CNS that Omar Abdullah was mulling to visit the house of the deceased NC worker, however he could not make it on account of the criticism made by the so-called patriotic political parties who claimed that CM has no respect for the security personnel who lost their lives during a Fidayeen attack in Srinagar.
Party sources further stated that Home Ministry of India gave him (Omar Abdullah) clean chit only checking and cross checking his statement about accession and merger of J&K with India which he made in Assembly. This proves that India doesnt trust him and it is really an irony and apathy that a man of such a stature with great Indian values is being doubted time and again. (CNS)
