SRINAGAR: Director General of Police, Ashok Prasad and Senior Superintendent of Police Pulwama, Amit Kumar are likely to appear before the Rajya Sabha Privilege Committee on Wednesday in the case of a privilege motion moved before the upper house of parliament by National Conference MP, Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri.
According to sources, the state police Chief and the SSP had been summoned by the Privilege Committee headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha to appear before it in New Delhi on March 13.
Apart from the Deputy Chairman P J Kurien, the committee comprises MPs Sita Ram Yechuri, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Balbir Punj.
It is notable that Ratanpuri had moved a privilege motion before the Rajya Sabha Privilege Committee in July 2011 against then SP Pulwama, Amit Kumar, who had allegedly misbehaved with him in the police station and in the District Development Board (DDB) meeting of Pulwama district.
After this, former Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal and the then DGP Kuldip Khoda had to appear in person before the privilege committee in February last year.
This was for the time first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that a police chief and the person who heads the State administration had to appear in person before the parliamentary committee on MPs complaint. (KNS)
