SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today questioned the motive of the central government in refusing to return mortal remains of Afzal Guru to his family.
Despite apprehensions and reservations, if GoI could hang Afzal Guru without caring for consequences in Kashmir Valley, what stops it from handing over the body to his family now, PDP MLC and chief spokesperson Naeem Akther questioned.
He said the denial of the central government to hand over of the mortal remains of Guru to his family was an insult to the people of Kashmir apart from the democratic institutions of the state.
He accused the GoI of burning all the bridges that connected it with the people of Kashmir. Apart from resistance leaders, elected representatives of the people are demanding the return of the body. GoI should understand that it is the minimum they could do to provide some kind of healing touch to the people, said Akhter in an interview.
He said that the whole house during the current session of the State Assembly unanimously expressed its demand for the return of mortal remains. Family of Guru was denied certain fundamental rights and mainstream parties, people apart from separatists are demanding mortal remains on humanitarian ground, he added.
Former Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Sahab has also written to GoI to return mortal remains to family, Akhter added. (KNS)
