SRINAGAR: In a disturbing incident, a father tried to kill himself along with his two children in a Tral forest on Tuesday night.
The tragedy was averted by his neighbours in the Dargadh Satoora area, some 15 km from the Tral town, who reached the spot in the nick of time.
Jalaluddin Gujjar had taken his two small children, 6-year-old Tabassum and 7-year-old Muhammad Talib to the nearby forest to carry out his deadly plan.
Suspecting something amiss by his absence at home, locals had set out in search, and finally caught up with the family in a cave in the woods.
They said that Jalaluddin was about to slit the throat of one of his kids when they reached the spot.
Some residents today uploaded the incident on social networking sites, prompting the police to take the villager into custody.
According to neighbours, Jalaluddin was beset with acute poverty, had been living with his children in Satoora after separating from his wife with whom he had long-standing domestic trouble.
