SRINAGAR: Even as protests over arrests broke out in a number of places in North and south Kashmir, the police in the southern Kulgam district is learnt to have registered first information reports (FIRs) against 166 youth for involvement in stone-pelting.
Officially, the district police said that only ten youth had been arrested, but an officer speaking on the condition of anonymity said that 22 persons had been picked up for violence in his zone alone.
Many of the booked youth are absconding, with the Qaimoh police station reporting the highest number (100) of FIRs in the district.
