Cop Stops CRPF From Firing, Beaten

SRINAGAR: CRPF personnel hit a police head constable with gun butts and beat him to pulp in South Kashmir’s Khudweni area of Kulgam when he stopped them from firing directly on protestors. “I am injured. They beat me ruthlessly but I didn’t allow them to fire directly on people,” police head constable Reyaz Ahmed Khandey said.

According to reports soon after Friday prayers, hundreds of people assembled in Rohpora area of Khudweni and raised anti-India slogans. Agitated youth pelted stones on police and CRPF personnel. Panic gripped in the area when CRPF personnel from 163 D Battalion fired in air.

“Even after aerial firing, protestors continued to pelt stones on us. CRPF personnel continuously argued with me and threatened me of dire consequences in case police didn’t allow them to fire on protestors but I didn’t allow them. Irked by  my resistance they caught hold of me and hit me with gun butts in full public glare,” he said.

”I am happy that I saved so many human lives and followed the instructions of my seniors”, Reyaz said.

Eyewitnesses said that a senior police officer present there fled from the scene and made no attempt to save his junior from the clutches of CRPF personnel. (CNS)
