SRINAGAR:: Despite being headless, State Human Rights Commission has disposed 4,914 cases during previous and current year while 1491 cases are such in which SHRC has made its recommendations asking the government to deliver justice to the affected families.
SHRC member Rafiq Fida said that despite functioning without the Chairman and Inspector General of Police, the Commission is performing well and cases are being taken up in a speedy manner. It is a wrong notion that Commission cant function without the appointment of Chairman. The Commission is disposing the cases pertaining to human rights violations on fast track basis and so far out of 6,415 cases, 4,914 cases have been disposed off, he said.
Pertinently, the Commission is headless since October, 25, 2011 following the completion of the term of its then chairman Mufti Bashir-u-Din. The Commission is also without the Inspector General of Police. (CNS)
