SRINAGAR: Following a fresh sectarian flare-up in the Sofipora area of Pahalgam, a Hurriyat (M) team visited the neighbourhood again on Thursday to pacify both sides, the separatist alliance said.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq dispatched a high-level delegation of Hakeem Abdul Rasheed, Abdul Rasheed Untoo, Muhammad Maqbool Sofi, and Abdul Majeed Wani to the areas concerned today after yet another bid by anti-unity forces to spark off Shia-Sunni hatred, it said.
The Hurriyat chairman expressed deep concern at the fresh bid by inimical elements in the Salar, Sofipora areas, and said that attempts being made to break Muslim unity in Kashmir would not be allowed to succeed, it said.
The visiting delegation met prominent figures from both sides, urging them to maintain unity and amity at all costs, it said.
The Mirwaiz also paid tributes to the victims of the Sopore massacre of nearly 2 decades ago, lauding the resolve and resilience of the townsfolk, it said.
