Yousuf’s Son To Fight Till Supreme Court

SRINAGAR: A relieved National Conference on Friday welcomed the Bedi Commission report on the death of party worker Haji Muhammad Yousuf, while the opposition PDP rejected it, saying that the case should be investigated under criminal law, even as the family of the deceased said it would move the Supreme Court.

“Parties which politicized the issue have got their reply, and should be feeling ashamed,” law minister Ali Muhammad Sagar said.

 “Those who leveled baseless allegations against Omar sahib would be now feeling ashamed,” the minister said. “The government had appointed one of the most prominent and honest judges of the country to investigate the matter after the allegations were made.”  

“The PDP should feel ashamed that it is pointing fingers at an honest judge’s report to extend politics to the issue,” Sagar said.

“It (PDP) has been politicizing every issue from the day one and it doesn’t have any other job to do,” he said.

But expressing dissatisfaction over the Bedi Commission report, PDP spokesperson Nayeem Akthar said that the matter “involved criminality and should be investigated under the provisions of criminal law,”

“It is a criminal case involving money transaction which had caused death in suspicious conditions, so it needs a criminal investigation,” Akthar said.

When asked who in his party’s view should carry out the criminal investigation, the PDP spokesman said: “Once the government approves it, let us decide.”

“This report is to cover up the faces involved in the crime. Though, various evidences have been destroyed or tampered with, but still the PDP wants criminal investigation in the suspicious death,” he said.

Syed Talib Hussain, the son of Haji Yousuf said that the family was determined “to find every possible legal way to get justice.”

“Our family had never expected any justice from the commission. It was established to provide protective cover to officers and the accused. We’ll go to the Supreme Court for justice,” he said.

 “I had never appeared before the commission except when I was compelled to appear once through summons, because from the very beginning I had no expectation from the commission,” he added.

The family’s counsel said he would frame his future course after going through the commission’s report.
