JAMMU: Protests in various colleges of this winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir today intensified over Delhi bus gangrape case.
Demanding justice to the victim and stern punishment for the culprits, thousands of students this morning boycotted their classes and took to the streets amid slogans.
Girls from Government College for Women, Parade took out a protest rally and marched towards the Civil Secretariat where section 144 of CrPC has already been imposed after Darbare Move. Police, however, restricted them from marching towards the secretariat complex.
Later, the protestors blocked the road and staged dharna thus bringing the traffic to a standstill. The students from other colleges including Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, GGM Science College, Government College for Commerce, MIET College Kot Bhalwal, Degree College R S Pura, University of Jammu, under the banner of various student organisations, also took out protest rallies and held demonstrations.
Carrying placards and banners, the protestors were demanding death penalty for the accused. Tight security arrangements were made outside the educational institutions to avoid any untoward incident.
