SRINAGAR: The Hurriyat (M) on Monday said that Mirwaiz Umer Farooq had gone to Pakistan not only as the head of the conglomerate but as the undisputed leader of the Kashmiri people.
In a statement issued after a meeting of its executive and general council constituents, the Hurriyat (M) deplored what it termed as rhetoric by certain political quarters over its Pakistan visit, saying that such remarks were juvenile and far from the truth and aimed at creating confusion.
It comes amid trenchant criticism by Syed Ali Shah Geelani and shortly after dissident leader Shabir Ahmad Shah said that the Hurriyat (M) had left for Pakistan without consulting others.
Such statement-mongering is far from the truth, juvenile, needless, and airmed at creating confusion among the oppressed Kashmiri people, it said.
Not only was the Pakistan visit discussed in several executive and general council sessions, it was extensively deliberated upon for over a month with delegations of intellectuals, civil society members, legal experts, educationists and prominent figures from various sections of life, it said.
As a result, the Pakistan visit was not only hailed as a historic juncture, but the entire nation declared it as important headway in relation to resolving the Kashmir issue, it said.
Those who level unfounded criticism at the Kashmiri leadership (over the Pak visit) out of their vested interests and inflated ego have displayed the poverty of their own minds and lack of political vision, it said.
