SRINAGAR: A woman was injured Tuesday when an explosive device went off at Kandi forests near 28 DIV ammunition depot in Kupwara .
A police official said that Afroza Begum (27), wife of Abdul Majeed Magray, a resident of Keegam village of Kupwara district was injured when she stepped on a left over landmine while collecting firewood in Kandi forests.
The injured woman was shifted to the district hospital Kupwara where doctors referred her to the Srinagar after her condition deteriorated, the official said.
Meanwhile, a tragedy was averted when police detected and defused an IED in South Kashmirs Tral area.
A police spokesman in a statement said that Awantipora police detected an IED on Tral – Mandoora road at Tral today.
The Bomb Disposal Squad of Awantipora police was pressed into services who defused the IED on spot, the spokesman said adding Tral police has registered a case in this regard.
In another similar incident, some pedestrians at Thajiwara, Achabal found a suspicious substance that posed like an IED on road side following which the Anantnag police sealed the area and restricted traffic on the road.
The incident turned out to be a hoax only after the bomb disposal squad of Anantnag police was called in. The traffic was later restored in the area.
