SRINAGAR – MLA Langate Er. Rashid along with scores of panchs and sarpanchs from different districts on Monday took-out a march in Lal Chowk Srinagar against what he termed as deteriorating human rights situation.
Protesters carrying banners seeking revocation of AFSPA and PSA started their march from Abi Guzar towards United Nations Military Observer Group office after defying police restrictions.
Protesters were raising slogans demanding revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), release of political prisoners, seeking clemency for Afzal Guru and abolition of life imprisonment. Protestors also were demanding action against all those police and army officers who are rooming free after committing heinous crimes like rape, murder and arson in the state.
A statement quoting Rashid said that government of India was depriving Kashmiris of their right to live a dignified life and was encouraging state terrorism by allowing security forces to curb rights of Kashmiris under garb of draconian laws.
He asked international community to take notice of what has been happening in Kashmir since last twenty five years and enquire from Government of India why it was institutionalizing human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir where animals are enjoying much more rights than humans.
Heavy contingent of police was deployed enroute to foil the march. During scuffles with the police one protester Ajaz Ahmad of Sangrama got injured and was shifted to SMHS hospital.
