SRINAGAR (GNS) – A group of youth staged a candle-light vigil at Press Enclave in Srinagar late Wednesday evening demanding justice to parliament attack convict Muhammad Afzal Guru.
Reports said that scores of youth from Global Youth Foundation assembled at Press Enclave here and staged the vigil appealing the President of India to commute the death sentence of Afzal Guru.
The protestors also appealed the president to order a re-investigation of the case. The Afzal Gurus testimony in court has raised very disturbing questions and it is of utmost importance that investigations be made to verify his statements, Touseef Raina, chairman of the foundation said.
We want to move towards peace which can only be achieved through justice, Raina said adding the use of mercenaries for counter-insurgency operations must be stopped to move towards peace.
The foundation held that they are not affiliated with any political party and appealed the President of India to bring justice to Afzal Guru.
