JAMMU – Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is waiting to see the results of the state legislative council elections before deciding on the cabinet reshuffle in the state.

Abdullah wrote on micro-blogging website Twitter: “The MLC elections in the state have come at a good time because their results will have a bearing on the reshuffle that is being discussed.”

Elections to four legislative council seats from the panchayat quota are to be held Dec 3 and the results would be declared Dec 7.

The state cabinet reshuffle has been pending for long.

The ruling National Conference’s coalition partner, the Congress, is eyeing three vacancies after Peerzada Mohammad Syed was divested of the education portfolio following corruption charges against him in February. There are two more vacancies.

In the 22-member council of ministers, the Congress has 10 ministers. It has 17 members of assembly, while the NC has 28.

When the alliance was forged after the 2008 assembly elections, it was decided to have an equal partnership in the cabinet.
