SRINAGAR – Curfew restrictions without making any formal announcement has resulted in traffic jams, confusion and argument between people and security forces in Srinagar today.
CRPF and state police personnel claimed that they have strict instructions to impose curfew restriction and not to allow anyone to enter the restricted area while people, who had left their homes in the morning from different parts of the valley for Srinagar said no such announcement was made by the authorities.
However, senior police officers claimed that restrictions under section 144 CrPC were being strictly enforced in the areas falling under police station Kral Khud, Kothibagh, Shaheedgunj and Maisuma to prevent any law and order problem.
People travelling in their vehicles or in passenger vehicles were made to move from one place to another by the police personnel, who refused to allow them to drive on Maulana Azad road and Residency road. These roads, which always remained flooded with vehicles, are connecting down town and uptown with each other in Srinagar.
Thousands of people, who had come from district headquarters and other areas in the Kashmir valley, had to return to their homes disappointed without getting their work done in Srinagar.
