SRINAGAR (ONS) – The Anjuman-e-Sharaie Shiayan on Sunday convened a joint Shia-Sunni Coordination Committee of religious and pro-freedom parties here to ensure peaceful conduct of Muharram programmes.
The panel, headed by Anjuman president Agha Syed Hassan, said that it had been successful in defeating the plans of agencies and elements bent upon tearing Kashmir apart with sectarian and doctrinal discord which, according to it, become more active during the month of Muharram.
It has scheduled the meeting of its core group at the JKLF headquarters in Maisuma on Wednesday to assign responsibilities to members.
Those who attended todays meeting held in Zadibal included advocate Zahid Ali of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari of the Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen, Ghulam Nabi Zakki of the Awami Action Committee, Sheikh Abdul Rasheed of the JKLF, Nayeem Khan of the National Front, Hurriyat leader Syed Saleem Geelani, Hakeem Abdul Rasheed of the Muslim League, Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi of the Youth Awami Action Committee, Molvi Basheer Ahmad Shah of the Democratic Freedom Party, Bahseer Ahmad Khan of the Trade Union Centre, Mushtaq Ahmad Daryal of the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers, and representatives of several other associations.
