An independent Jammu and Kashmir MLA today said he will support the ruling NC-Congress alliance in the upcoming Legislative Council polls if the state government releases political prisoners and withdraws cases against the stone-pelters.
“The NC-Congress coalition has sought my support for Legislative Council elections under the Panchayat quota. I will campaign for their candidates if they fulfil my two demands,” MLA from Langate Sheikh Abdul Rashid told reporters here.
“The government should release prisoners and also withdraw all the FIRs against youth accused of being involved in stone-pelting,” he said.
Rashid said that he has conveyed his conditions to NC provincial president Ali Mohammad Dar, who had come to seek his support.
Over 33,000 panches and sarpanches, who were elected last year, are eligible to vote for the four seats of Legislative Council to be held on December 3.
Tomorrow is the last date for withdrawal.
