ISLAMABAD (ANI) – Pakistan did not know the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden before the CIA raid, an official US assessment of the Al-Qaeda leader’s presence in Abbottabad has concluded.
Head of the US Special Operations Command Admiral William McRaven said that Pakistan wasn’t informed of the raid because the initial assumption was “How could they not know he was there?”
McRaven had personally supervised the May 1 raid on bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad that killed the reclusive terror group leader.
According to the Dawn, a report by the American Forces Press Service quoted McRaven as telling a meeting in Washington that he believed informing Pakistan about the raid in advance would have put the mission at risk.
“We have no intelligence that indicates the Pakistanis knew he was there,” he added.
