SRINAGAR (ONS) – Night temperatures in Srinagar fell below the freezing point for the first time this season on Wednesday night, even as Leh reeled under a minimum of minus 11. 2 degrees of Celsius, officials said.
Meteorologists said that last night was the coldest in the valley so far this season, and forecast rain and snow over some parts of the valley in the coming two days.
According to the weather bureau, Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 0.6 degrees last night, Pahalgam minus 3.8, Gulmarg minus 2, and the Kargil area of Ladakh minus 4.6.
Leh, with its minimum of minus 11.2 degrees, was coldest region of the state during the past twenty four hours, it said.
The state is likely to witness a marked change in weather in the coming few days due to developing western disturbances, the bureau said, adding that several places on both sides of the Pir Panjal ranges would experience rain and snow.
According to Sonam Lotus, the director at the regional meteorological centre here, maximum temperatures in November remained consistent with levels recorded in the corresponding periods over the past two decades, but minimum temperatures had fallen below normal since the past two weeks.
