NEW DELHI – Former Defence Minister and veteran political leader Krishna Chandra Pant died here this morning at the age of 81, his family said. Pant, son of veteran freedom fighter and former Chief Miniser of Uttar Pradesh, Bharat Ratna Govind Ballabh Pant, had a “peaceful” death at his residence, the family announced.
He is survived by two sons.
Pant was also former Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, a member of both Houses of Parliament and held charge of several Ministries at the Centre.
He was cremated at Lodhi crematorium a few hours after his death. His mortal remains were taken to Haridwar. After having been a public figure for more than 50 years, his family said they would “dedicate a private mourning in his memory.”
