120 Cyclists To Participate
SRINAGAR – The government Thursday said that stages are all set for International Cycling Race to be held on December 04 from Royal Spring Golf Club to University of Kashmir here.
The minister for Medical Education, Technical Education and Sports, R.S. Chib said that the event would be organised for the first in the Valley.
As many as 120 cyclists will participate in the race. The minister was addressing a Press Conference at Bakshi Stadium here today. He said that the cyclists will cover 160 kilometers in seven rounds from Royal Spring Golf Club to Kashmir University Hazratbal to and fro.
The Minister said that the event is being held in connection with J&K Sports Council Golden Jubilee celebrations under the auspices of International Cycling Federation headed by Managing Director, Aqil Khan. Aqil informed that the event will be directly telecasted on Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar and other 20 national and international channels. Besides, the programme will be broadcasted by Radio Kashmir Srinagar.
Earlier, the Minister laid foundation stone of Administrative Block of Youth Services and Sports Department near Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar. Rs. 2.26 crore are expected to be spent on the project. The Minister informed that the block will be completed within nine months.
Chib said that the event is first of its kind in which 120 International sportspersons are expected to participate. Besides 250 delegates drawn from various countries are participating in the event.
He said that 120 J&K Police personnel, NCC cadets of various Colleges and volunteers of Civil Defence would also participate in the race. He hoped that the event will bring people of various cultures close, giving rise to mutual brotherhood and amity. He asked the youth to get benefitted by the event by watching the cyclists participating for peace and tranquility at global level.
Earlier, an officers meeting was held at Youth Hostel here today to finalize arrangements for International Cycling Race at Royal Spring Golf Course.
The meeting was presided over by Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education and Sports, R. S. Chib.
Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, SSP Srinagar, SP Traffic, Secretary Sports Council, Director Youth Services and Sports, Joint Secretary Sports, Principals of various Colleges, Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides and International Cycling organizers.
The Minister discussed all the pros and cons of holding the event with extreme care and enthusiasm with the officers of various departments and asked them to make foolproof arrangements for making the event a success.
