SRINAGAR (ONS) – With the advent of Muharram, Srinagar is hosting a number of seminars on Hussainiyat in the coming days, with at least two of them slated for Sunday.
A major Hussaini Conference is scheduled at the SKICC on Sunday, with Justice (retd) Basheer Ahmad Kirmani, as the chief guest.
Renowned intellectuals, poets and writers would take part in the conference, beginning at 10:30 a.m., the organisers, the Majma-e-Muhibban-e-Hussain (AS), said.
The Tehreek-e-Hurriyat too is hosting a seminar on the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) on Sunday, the party said.
To be held at the TeH headquarters at Hyderpora, the seminar would feature leading religious scholars and thinkers, it said.
Meanwhile, Wajahat Habibullah, Indias first Chief Information Commissioner and the present chairman of the Minorities Commission would be the chief guest at a conference on the Right to Information Act at the College of Education on Saturday.
Participants would discuss the governments move to delete certain rules from the RTI Act in the state, the head of the J and K RTI Movement, Dr. Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, said.
Further, the Srinagar-based news agency, the KNS, is to hold a seminar on the Role of Media in Society at the Sherwani Hall in Baramulla on Saturday.
Leading journalists, political leaders, legal experts and other prominent public figures will address the event, reports said.
