Coalition agrees on monthly honorauium, insurance cover to panchs, sarpanchs
SRINAGAR – Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Prof. Saifuddin Soz has denounced the reports that his party had diluted its stands on the 73rd amendment of Indian constitution.
The J&K PCC had at no point of time suggested adoption of 73rd Amendment of the Constitution of India. We had all along emphasized that since 73rd Amendment of the Constitution of India enshrines several measures necessary for empowerment of Panchayat institutions, these provisions need to be incorporated into the Panchayat Act of the State, said Soz in a statement.
He said the Congress had stressed that the question of incorporation of the 73rd Amendment of the Constitution of India would be decided through consensus between the Coalition Partners.
As is known to the general public, the Elections to the Block Development Councils were postponed for a short time( 1-1 ½ Months), so that the Congress Party would go into the question of incorporation of certain provisions of the 73rd Amendments and come up with a comprehensive paper on this question
He said a committee has been constituted by him on the matter during the Coalition Coordination Committee meeting on Monday. I am confident that the Congress Party will be table to place its recommendation in this behalf at the next meeting of the NC _ INC Coordination Committee which is going to be held next week.
Meanwhile, the NC- INC Coordination Committee has come to an understanding that the Coalition Govt should take all measures to make Sarpanchs and Panchs feel safe and secure.
He said the coalition partners had reached an understanding that Sarpanchs and Panchs should get a monthly honorarium. Another element of the understanding is that the Sarpanchs and Panchs shall be given an insurance cover. The premium for which will be paid by the J&K Govt, he added.
