NC Returned Favour By Pulling Out Members: PDP

Srinagar, Nov 12: Expressing anguish over the dissolution of House Committee probing charges of land grab against Minister for PHE, Taj Mohiuddin, Chairman of the panel and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLC, Murtaza Khan said the Legislative Council Chairman took the step under pressure from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Congress members.

“The Chairman, Amrit Malhotra was pressurized from every side and ultimately had no option but to dissolve the committee. Most of the Congress members and the Chief Minister pressurized him to dissolve the committee”, Khan Monday told KNS over phone adding “Most of the Congress members except President Saifuddin Soz worked overtime to come to the rescue of Taj”, he added.

Khan said the National Conference returned the favour that he (Taj) had done to them by defending them on the alleged Syed Yousuf Murder case and the JKCA scam.

“National Conference members resigned from the panel which indicates they came to the rescue to Taj Mohiuddin and were not interested in unearthing the truth. NC is the fountainhead of corruption in Kashmir” he said.

The PDP MLC said that the issue of land grab was not new or limited to Taj Mohiuddin but the property accumulated by the Abdullah family was a result of land grab over a long period of time.

“This is a much bigger issue than this (case). Dr Farooq Abdullah residence is a case of land grab. They have illegally occupied 100 Kanals of land in Srinagar. Their residence in Jammu is a result of land grabbing and most of their property has been accumulated through illegal occupation”, he said.

Murtaza Khan expressed surprise over the way the committee was dissolved. “Bashir Ahmad Magray says he did not send resignation to Chairman and that he never wrote the letter. This along with the way NC pulled out its members and Congress pressurized Malhotra, makes it clear that any politician in Kashmir can get away with any crime and evade investigation. When the house panel is not allowed to investigate, how can any other authority investigate it?”, he added.

However, he said the circumstances in which the committee was constituted and dissolved will remain in records of the house, which can bring up the case for investigation anytime. “It is on record that the LC Chairman said there was a strong case against Taj Mohiuddin. The case is there, it can open anytime and is not going to go anywhere”, he said, adding, his party was committed to fight corruption in the state.

The MLC, while launching a scathing attack on PHC Minister, Taj Mohiuddin said: “Taj Mohiuddin, on the floor of the house said that he was innocent and would resign if anything was proved against him. If he is clear, he should welcome and cooperate with the investigation. Since he has everything to hide, he tried every option to scuttle investigation into the matter. If he was innocent, he had no need to stage the drama on one pretext or the other. The issue will follow him to his grave”.

He accused Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah of intentionally rendering all the institutions of accountability non functional. “Accountability Commission, Vigilance Commission etc have been made non functional to evade accountability and transparency”. (KNS)
