Srinagar, Nov 12: Police at the highway township of Pattan has arrested three persons, one of them having allegedly snatched the pistol of an army major and fired at him recently. A case has been registered under section 392 and 307 RPC and 7/27 Arms Act vide FIR No 258/2012 of Police Station, Pattan, and investigation started.
According to reports, there was a scuffle between some locals at Para mohalla of the town on Saturday during which one Ghulam Muhammad Mir son of Muhammad Ramzan of Chak Siri had got injured while the assailants had managed their escape.
Quoting police sources, reports said an army officer, Major Manipal Singh, of Zangam camp of 29 Rashtriya Rifles, along with two of his men, had visited the locality on the same day when some unidentified youth allegedly snatched his pistol and during a scuffle opened fire injuring the major and Mir were injured. The major was shifted to Badamibagh army hospital while Mir was rushed to a nearby hospital.
During investigation and on the basis of eyewitness accounts, the assailants were identified as Firdous Ahmad Wani son of Ghulam Muhammad of Chak Siri, who had allegedly snatched the pistol and fired from it, and Javed Ahmad Rather son of Muhammad Ashraf of Pakhipora, and Javed Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Ahmad of Palapora (Pattan). They have been arrested.
