Dealers Booked for Selling Deceptive Gift Packs
SRINAGAR – In view of approaching Diwali festival, the Legal Metrology department on Tuesday conducted inspection of various markets in Jammu city and booked unscrupulous traders dealing with sweets, dry fruits, pastry and crockery shops for indulging in devious tactics against the interest of consumers.
According to Deputy controller, Enforcement, Inspector Puja Kumari booked M/s Cadbury India for selling deceptive gift packs to the consumers and issued notice to the company for marketing gift packs which were deceptively decorated and presented to lure and befool the consumers because of their big size but in actual the quantity was much less as compared to the size. She also inspected traders dealing with sale of sweets and found all the traders were weighing their products along with the weight of the container thereby giving 100 gm less quantity to the consumer thus violating Weights and Measures Act.
The department booked one renowned sweet seller for selling 100g less Sundh to the Consumer and warned all the traders to give exact quantity to the consumers.
The department also booked one pastry seller, one hardware seller and one crockery seller for violation under the Act.
The department has made a fervent appeal to consumers to be extra vigilant while purchasing gifts and other items during festivals.
