SRINAGAR (KNS) – Police today arrested the father-son trio involved in the infamous Hajeej fraud, in which they duped hundreds of gullible Hajj aspirants to the tune of crores of rupees over the past two years.
The alleged kingpin, Fabeyan Wahid along with his brother, Arsalan Wahid, and father, Abdul Wahid Gilkar, were apprehended near Jehangir Chowk here, following a tip off about their presence in the area.
The superintendent of police, City North, Tahir Salim, confirmed the report.
Pertinently, the Hajeej Travels had duped 501 Hajj aspirants in 2011 after receiving Rs 5.5 crore from them as advance payment for arranging pilgrimage for them. However, the owners of the company had gone into hiding after failing to take the aspirants on the pilgrimage. Police had later arrested the kingpin, Fabeyan Wahid, from a hotel in Rajasthan and the alleged fraud case is before a court.
Surprisingly, the company this year again, allegedly succeeded in duping another 384 aspirants and allegedly swindled about Rs 4 crore from them.
The owners of the company, who were arrested, are presently living at Harwan on the city outskirts. An FIR under No 88/2012 has been lodged against the trio at Police Station, Khanyar, the SP said.
