JAMMU – The Secretariat Chalo march of Jammu and Kashmir employees’ was today foiled by police on the opening day of Durbar Move offices in this winter capital of the state.
The Durbar reopened here this morning with a customary press conference addressed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Civil Secretariat.
Hundreds of employees under the banners of Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) and State Road Transport Corporation Employees Union this morning staged demonstrations and tried to march towards the Secretariat where Section 144 CrPC has already been imposed by the district administration.
Amid slogans, employees from various departments under EJAC tried to march towards the Civil Secretariat from outside the Press Club of Jammu.
Heavy deployment of police personnel restricted their march following which the police and employees also entered into scuffle. Meanwhile, police also resorted to mild lathicharge at the protestors, who had reached near Gumat area, few meters away from the Civil Secretariat to disperse them.
