India and Pakistan are set to play their first bilateral series in five years in December this year. It is a move that has been welcomed by a number of cricket fans from both sides of the border as they await the the rivalry to resume.
However, former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas has expressed disappointment over the short duration of the series.
Though he is delighted by the resumption of cricket between the two countries, he feels the importance of the rivalry between the two Asian cricketing giants is undermined by the small duration of the series.
He mentioned that the series should have consisted of a Test series and that the boards of the two countries should have made it a point to create a window for the same in their busy schedule.
Abbas, however, hoped that both the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Pakistan Cricket Board can work out a schedule for a clash between the two teams in the traditional format.
His comments came after the Indian Home Ministry cleared Pakistans tour for a limited-overs series at the end of this year.
India is set to play Pakistan in three One-Day Internationals and two Twenty20 matches between December 25, 2012 and January 7, 2013.
The resumption of bilateral series between the two neighbours is a welcome sign as the cricketing ties were cut off after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
