Srinagar, Nov 01: One person was killed in the Zangam area of Pattan in North Kashmir on Thursday by coming under a railway train, reports said.
Abdul Rasheed Lone, an employee of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, was hit by the train when heading for the local school this morning to get his sons results.
The death sparked off angry protests in the area, with people accusing the railways and the administration of negligence.
The protestors said that no member of the railway police was present along the track when the accident occurred.
It was not clear whether Lone had been passing through a designated railway crossing which has to be closed when a train is due, or had attempted to cross at a random point.
According to the locals, the point used to be always manned by railway police, but no personnel were on duty this morning.Observer News Service
