Syed Shahriyar
Srinagar, Nov 01: Marking the Golden Jubilee of his party, the chief patron of the Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (IuM), Maulana Abbas Ansari, on Thursday warned against variants of Sheikh Abdullah who, he said, were present in the Kashmir movement but were working behind-the-scenes for their own interests.
Maulana Abbas was speaking at a rally in Lawaypora, Gund Hassi Bhat held on the 50th year of the IuMs foundation. The chairman of the Hurriyat (M), Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, was the cheif guest while the JKLF chief, Muhamad Yasin Malik, and the president of Anjuman-e-Sharaie, Shiayan, Agha Syed Hassan, were the guests of honour.
The Maulana urged people to combat the elements who, according to him, were exploiting the sentiments of the masses.
These people have to be countered stiffly so that no one dares to exploit the Kashmiri masses at the political and the religious levels, he said. We do not need sops and packages as we are fighting for basic and birth rights, which is no crime.
Felicitating the party on its golden jubilee, the Mirwaiz said that Kashmiris were facing state terrorism for demanding their legitimate and fundamental rights.
There is no cause to be disheartened. Every movement witnesses crests and troughs, but nothing can shake the principles on which it is based, he said.
In his speech, the JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik recalled the role of Maulana Abbas in forming the Muslim United Front in the mid-eighties, saying that by laying the foundations of the Front, the IuM patron had rallied the Kashmiri masses under one banner.
Maulana Abbas has always strived fruitfully to achieve unity among the people which has led to a growing concept of centrality and solidarity among different sects and schools of thought, he said.
Agha Hassan said that the under Maulana Abbas, the IuM had achieved great strides in campaigning for total adherence to Islamic teachings and values.
