Srinagar (ONS) – Panic gripped the Parihaspora area in Pattan on Wednesday morning when personnel guarding the SSM Polytechnic allegedly opened fire on a tractor-trailer, injuring two persons seriously.
Senior PDP leader and MLA for the area, Molvi Iftekhar Ansari, said that the guards had opened unprovoked fire on his supporters, while the college authorities said that the tractor-borne group had attacked staff preparing for the visit of the state chief minister.
The police has taken two of the security guards into custody, and begun an investigation.
According to some people on the tractor, the private guards at the polytechnic had opened fire on the vehicle ferrying livestock for the marriage ceremony of Ansaris son.
The MLA said that he has a long-standing dispute with the college administration over some land, and that the college guards had opened fire when his supporters were transporting sheep for the marriage feast in his family.
The college chairman, Shabir Ahmad, on the other hand, said that a group of people had attacked staffers busy erecting a stage for a function to be attended by the chief minister in a few days.
There was a scuffle between the two sides, and the college security personnel opened fire into the air, he said. The two persons injured were wounded during the scuffle.
