Srinagar – Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon has instructed officers of CA&PD and Legal Metrology Departments (LMD) to intensify marketing checking across the valley and mobilize field functionaries at district, tehsil and block levels so that provision of qualitative commodities on Government fixed rates is ensured on forth coming Eid and Moharam days.
The Minister was reviewing Eid and Muharram arrangements, stock and supply position of essentials at an officers meeting here today.

Anees Ahmad, senior officers of Legal Metrology Department and representatives of various Oils Companies, besides district heads of CA&PD were present on the occasion.
Underlining need for proper monitoring, . Akhoon asked officers to mobile human resources and keep constant vigil on profiteers besides ensuring availability of adequate stock of essentials to the consumers. He said it is the responsibly of the districts officers to see whether stock of the K. oil, rice, atta, sugar and LPG is reaching in time on the depots and other sale outlets for distribution among the consumers.
The Minister directed officers to personally inspect the markets and ensure rate lists are displayed conspicuously by shopkeepers outside their shops. Asking for stern action under law against the profiteers and black-marketers, the Minister said that nobody would be allowed to indulge in such practices.
Akhoon said that K.oil quota has been increased to 7 liters per ration ticket in view of winter and directed officers to ensure dispatch of k.oil to the depots before 15th of every month.
Regarding LPG supply, the meeting was informed that over 10,000 refilled cylinders are being distributed to the consumers day to day basis through oil companies. The Minister asked the representatives of oil companies to bring more efficiency in gas distribution and open more counters to address the problems being faced by the people on this account. He asked them to keep rate list of different categories of Gas at displayed prominently at sale outlets. The Minister announced that on eve of Eid-ul-Azha, consumers will be given one Non-Subsidized gas cylinders/RT in order to meet his requirements till 31st of October, 2012.
The Minister asked officers of CA&PD to launch a massive publicity campaign through print and electronic media to keep consumers aware about the prices of essential commodities.
The meeting was informed that the government has indentified 9 places in the Srinagar City for sale of sacrificial animals.
The meeting was informed that buffer stock of essential commodities including 30385 metric tons of rice, 6739 metric tons wheat and 3436 metric tons sugar is available in the Valley. Besides 1780 liters petrol, 6163 liters diesel is available for 15 days and 3892 liters kerosene is available for one month, the meeting was informed.
It was also given out in the meeting 257250 cylinders of LPG were distributed by different oil companies in month October till date.
Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution informed in the meeting that different traders of Valley had consented for 2% rebate in the prices of Essential Commodities on eve of Eid-ul-Azha.
