Kulgam – Acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Jahangir Mir, Tehsildar- led joint market checking squads intensified market checking operation across different tehsils and block headquarters in Kulgam District today.
About two quintals of rotten and stale vegetables and fruits were destroyed while an amount of Rs.4,140-/- was imposed as fine on unscrupulous traders and shopkeepers under Essential Commodities Act.
In Kulgam town, the market checking squad destroyed 50 kgs of rotten, unhealthy and expired fruits and vegetables. In addition, 50 kgs milk and 600 packets of junk food were also made unsalable in the town. It was impressed upon the shopkeepers to display latest rate lists in their business establishments to avoid over charging.
Meanwhile, polythene weighing 20 kg was seized in D.H. Pora tehsil and the concerned dealers warned against stocking or sale of it in future.
Pertinently, the Deputy Commissioner has circulated a direction impressing upon Tehsildars to carry out sustained market checking operation ahead of Eid-ul-Azha so that the consumers are not fleeced by greedy shopkeepers. He has also directed the CA & PD authorities to make available all the essential commodities in the ration depots and CBCs as per the scales.
Nobody should suffer for want of any essential commodity on the eve of Eid, he said directing the executive magistrates to keep vigil on the market scenario in their respective jurisdictions.
