250 Phone Lines, Broadband Service Dead
Srinagar – At least 250 telephone connections in the sprawling Bemina area of this capital city have been dead for the past four days after burglars cut off its underground cable and stole it last week. Because of this, as many subscribers of landline and broadband services of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have been subjected to inconvenience.
Burglars struck our 400-pair underground cable near the directorate of Planning and Statistics in Hajiabad locality of Bemina area on Saturday and decamped with its 7-meter length snapping the service to at least 250 subscribers, many of them using the broadband facility as well, a senior BSNL official told Kashmir Observer, adding an FIR had been lodged with the police.
He said the cable passed through a filthy sewer at the ill-fated spot and its restoration would need drainage. As the local laborers were reluctant to undertake the drainage, we had to engage non-local workers for the purpose. The drain would be cleared and dried by tomorrow after which the restoration of the damage would be undertaken, he said, adding the snapped services would be resumed soon after.(Observer News Service)
